Tropical Waterscapes was started by The Waterfall Guy Jason Harlow in the Spring of 2006. At the time Jason saw a great need for a company that would not only create water features the correct way, but who would also treat it's clients the right way. Jason had built his first water garden in 1992 and had a passion for it throughout his life. With $100 in his pocket, Jason set out on a journey that would take the company from concept to inception. Later that same year Jason sold 45% ownership of Tropical Waterscapes to an investor.
The year of 2007 saw tremendous growth and opportunity for Tropical Waterscapes. The Spring of 2007 began with a very busy construction season, and it did not let up until late in the year. In fact on the revenue side, gross revenues jumped a staggering 475%.
Early in 2007 Tropical Waterscapes launched an online store featuring everything necessary to build and maintain a water feature. Customers from as far away as California, Florida, New York, and even Alaska have placed orders from the site.
Another highlight of 2007 included attending Pondemodium, which is Aquascape, Inc's premier pond event held in July each year. During this week over 1,000 contractors gather in Chicago for classroom instruction, hands on building, and friendly competitions. Tropical Waterscapes sent two people to this event, as we continued to provide top notch education for our employees.
In September 2007, Jason was featured on an eight minute live segment of "Around the House", a live television show shown on NBC Action News channel in Kansas City, MO. The show features industry experts from their respective fields in different industries concerning home improvement.
The year 2008 has started right for Tropical Waterscapes, as they were awarded the distinction of becoming a Certified Aquascape Contractor, becoming one of only eight in the state, and one of only 280 in the nation to have this certification.
In the summer of 2008 Tropical Waterscapes participated in an invitation only pond build dubbed "The Worlds' Most Extreme Pond Build" in which the top 250 water feature contractors in North America constructed the signature water feature in front of Aqualand, Aquascape, Inc.'s corporate headquarters located in St. Charles, IL. Boulders upwards of 47,000 pounds, and a total of 130 tons of boulders were used to construct this awe inspiring feature. Tropical Waterscapes was the only company in the Springfield metro area invited to this event.
